Season 4, Part 2 Update!!!

Heyo! Long time, no write. It’s been over five months since Episode 3 of Season 4 dropped, and since then, it’s been nothing but silence from yours truly. Not intentionally. I’ve just had nothing to say. It’s kind of like when someone asks you what’s new, but it’s all old to you, so nothing really feels exciting enough to mention, unless it’s, like, super big, like you’re getting your arms replaced with lobster claws, because why not? I usually don’t have anything lobster claw-worthy to talk about, which unfortunately translates into shrugs and answers of “I don’t know” or “not much,” thereby giving you the reputation of a boring person, which you know you’re not, but now society does, and basically life isn’t fair.

Is that just me?

In any case, what I have been doing is working hard on the last three episodes of S4 so they can be released before this year is up. Yes, there are about five and a half months left in the year, which seems like plenty of time on paper, but when it comes to setting up recording times, and especially editing editing EDITING, time is sometimes a luxury of which there isn’t much. But I gave myself a goal, and now, I’ve given myself an even stricter goal. More on that in a bit.

First, some quick bullet points on what’s been going on.

  • Two of the episodes for S4 P2 are pretty much finished. I’m just waiting on retakes from a couple folks, and then I just need to do individual audio checks and mixing so listeners’ ears don’t kaboom.

  • The third episode for S4 P2 has finally, FINALLY been scheduled for recording. I’ll definitely talk more about it in the inevitable blog post for it, but it’s been more than a year trying to get this one together and make sure schedules line up. At last, we’re set to go in August. Fingers crossed nothing bad occurs and pushes that date back further.

  • Not only that, but I’ve already begun to get the ball rolling on Season 5! Most of the episodes have been cast and are in the process of scheduling, and in fact, some actual recording has already taken place for a couple eps! I’m really excited for all these eps to come together and for you to hear the talent giving life to them. It’s gonna be great.

Now, about that stricter goal I mentioned earlier. Like I said, I always intended to get these last three S4 eps out before the clock strikes midnight on 2024 (assuming we even get to December, what with the way everything seems to be falling apart… I’m nervous…). But I’ve never been one to give myself hard deadlines on anything because I feel A) like that only sets to put unwanted pressure on me and I don’t find pressure to be a good motivator, and B) since I’m the one putting the deadline in place, I know I can always finagle my way around it and keep pushing it back and pushing it back, so what’s the point of having a deadline in the first place if I’m just going to keep changing it?

Well, that’s changing NOW. Not for all time, I’m sure, but this time around, I’m making a call for when the rest of Season 4 needs to see the light of day.

Yes, come Halloween time, the last three eps will start dropping, E4 on 10/28, E5 on 11/4, and E6 on 11/11. I think that gives me plenty of time to appease my perfectionism and make sure each episode is polished and ready for human (or otherwise) ears. No squirming my way out of this one. It’s been poster-ized. That’s as official as it gets!

So there we go. The clock has begun ticking. I’m sure I’ll check in with one more update in between now and the premiere date (I’ll try to, anyway), but you can go ahead and mark your calendars and begin rocking back and forth with anticipation. I know I’ll be doing that. I mean, not really; it’s hard to edit and write shit when you’re rocking back and forth. You kind of need steady hands and a steady torso. That’s my experience, anyway.

PS. What’s that? You want a tease for the rest of S4? Well, since you asked so nicely, here you go: some names of some of the sound effects that are being used in two of the episodes.

  • “Dog - Interior - Pit Bull Mutt (Texas Big Face) - Male painful whimper 'ouch' 14”

  • “Impact - Exterior - Hitting hand on solid piece of metal construction equipment various tones 8”

  • “Kissing in a series with tongue and noisy and squeaky”

  • “Rain - car interior - heavy and intense downpour - strong wind - back seat perspective - XY”

  • “Chino pants - slow tearing of fabric”

Make of all that what you will 😉
